Glaucoma screening
Glaucoma damages the optic nerve, often without you noticing. Lost visual field does not return; early detection is therefore the only thing that works. At Novio Oogzorg we measure the eye pressure, make an OCT scan of the optic nerve and, if necessary, test the visual field.
The examination is fully covered and does not affect your deductible.

Who is glaucoma screening useful for?
- glaucoma runs in your family (parents, brothers or sisters)
- your eye pressure has previously been measured as raised
- you are over 40 and have never had a medical eye examination
- you use corticosteroids long-term
- you have a high minus or plus prescription
What do we examine?
- the eye pressure
- the optic nerve and the nerve fibre layer with an OCT scan
- the drainage angle, where the eye fluid flows out
- the visual field, if the other results give reason to do so
What if something is found?
If in doubt, we repeat the examination after a few months to monitor progress. If there are clear signs of glaucoma, we refer you directly to an ophthalmologist, who can start treatment. We keep your GP informed. Your GP always receives a report.
What should you bring and how long does it take?
Your ID, your glasses or lenses and an up-to-date list of your medication. Allow 30 to 45 minutes.
Please note: you may be given eye drops. During this examination we may dilate your pupils with eye drops. Your vision will then be blurred for a few hours and you will be sensitive to light. You may not drive back yourself: arrange transport or come with someone who can drive for you. Bring sunglasses.

Referral and insurance
We like to work together with your GP, so please ask for a referral; GPs refer easily via ZorgDomein. The examination is fully covered and does not affect your deductible. Afterwards your GP receives a report.
