An eye health check is the comprehensive examination with which we map the health of your eyes: from visual acuity to eye pressure, the retina and the optic nerve. Useful when you have complaints, but also as a check-up when eye diseases run in your family.
The examination is fully covered and does not affect your deductible.

When should you have your eyes checked?
- blurred or double vision, headaches, tired eyes
- flashes of light, floaters or distorted vision
- glaucoma, macular degeneration or retinal detachment in the family
- over 40 and never had a medical eye examination
- you use medication that can affect the eyes, such as hydroxychloroquine
What do we examine?
- visual acuity and, if necessary, your prescription
- eye pressure
- the front of the eye with the slit lamp
- retina, macula and optic nerve, if necessary with an OCT scan and fundus photo
- how both eyes work together
What do you receive afterwards?
A clear explanation of what we saw, advice and a report to your GP. If something needs monitoring, we schedule a follow-up. If specialist care is needed, we refer you to an ophthalmologist.
What should you bring?
Your ID, your glasses or lenses and an up-to-date list of your medication. Allow about 45 minutes.
Please note: you may be given eye drops. During this examination we may dilate your pupils with eye drops. Your vision will then be blurred for a few hours and you will be sensitive to light. You may not drive back yourself: arrange transport or come with someone who can drive for you. Bring sunglasses.

In Nijmegen, Gorinchem and Zwolle. We work by appointment only and without a waiting list.
Referral and insurance
We like to work together with your GP, so please ask for a referral; GPs refer easily via ZorgDomein. The examination is fully covered and does not affect your deductible. Afterwards your GP receives a report.
