Dry eyes
Dry eyes are the complaint we see most often, and the one people put up with for too long. A bottle of artificial tears relieves the feeling, but does not remove the cause. In some people the tear glands produce too little fluid; in others the tear film evaporates too quickly because the oil glands in the eyelid margin are blocked. That calls for a different approach.
We carry out a thorough examination of the tear film, the eyelid margins and the cornea, and on that basis propose a treatment: targeted advice on eye drops and eyelid care, meibomian gland expression in our practice, or the placement of punctum plugs.
Our optometrists
Novio Oogzorg was founded in 2025 by two senior optometrists, based on a shared vision of accessible, high-quality eye care. At our practice you are always seen by an optometrist: an allied health professional trained to recognise and assess eye conditions. Both are registered in the Dutch Quality Register for Allied Health Professionals (KP).
Adam Caglar — senior optometrist
Optometrist since 2019, with his first three years of experience in various hospitals and then as a self-employed optometrist. He focuses on eye complaints that fall between primary and secondary care. Where appropriate and under supervision, he can also prescribe medication, for example for a simple eye infection. That saves you an extra appointment with your GP or ophthalmologist.
Ali Awad — senior optometrist
Graduated as an optometrist from Utrecht University of Applied Sciences in 2018, then worked at the Beatrix Hospital and at Bergman Clinics. He attaches great importance to listening carefully, examining thoroughly and explaining clearly: eye complaints raise questions and uncertainty, and the aim is that you leave with peace of mind and a clear treatment plan.
How does it work?
1. Ask your GP for a referral
We like to work together with your GP. With a referral, your GP is informed from the start and we can coordinate your care properly. GPs can refer easily via ZorgDomein.
2. Make an appointment
You can do this online via this website, by phone on +31 85 225 23 69 or by email. We work by appointment only, so that there is enough time for every patient.
3. The examination
An optometrist examines your eyes with the equipment that suits your complaint. Allow thirty to sixty minutes, depending on the examination. Please bring your ID, your glasses and an up-to-date list of your medication.
4. Results and follow-up
Right after the examination you will hear what we found and what it means. If necessary, your GP receives a report. If specialist care is needed, we refer you to an ophthalmologist; often we can help you directly and avoid an unnecessary referral.
The examination is fully covered and does not affect your deductible. The CBR eye test and some treatments have their own fee; you can find these on our rates page.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need a referral?
We like to work together with your GP and therefore ask you for a referral. That way your GP is informed from the start and we can coordinate your care properly. GPs can refer easily via ZorgDomein.
Is the examination covered by insurance?
The examination is fully covered and does not affect your deductible. The CBR eye test and some treatments have their own fee; these are listed on our rates page.
What is the difference between an optometrist, an optician and an ophthalmologist?
An optician measures your eyes for glasses or contact lenses. An optometrist is an allied health professional who examines whether there is a medical cause behind your complaint. An ophthalmologist is a medical specialist who performs surgery and prescribes medication. Read more about the optometrist.
How long does an appointment take?
Thirty to sixty minutes, depending on the examination. We take our time, so that afterwards you know where you stand.
What should I bring?
Your ID, your glasses and an up-to-date list of your medication. Do you have a referral from your GP? Please bring that too.
Can I drive after the appointment?
During our examinations your pupils may be dilated with eye drops. Your vision will then be blurred for a few hours and you may not drive back yourself. Bring someone who can drive for you or come by public transport, and bring sunglasses.
Can I reschedule or cancel an appointment?
Yes. Please let us know at least 24 hours in advance, so that we can offer the slot to another patient.
