What does the pre-assessment involve?

We map the condition of your eyes completely. Among other things, we look at:

your prescription and how stable it has been in recent years;
the health of the cornea and the front of the eye;
the tear film, because dry eyes affect the outcome of a procedure;
the eye pressure;
the retina, if necessary with an OCT scan or fundus photos.

Based on these findings, we discuss with you what is possible and what you need to take into account. The final decision on whether a procedure can go ahead, and which technique is suitable, lies with the treating ophthalmologist or clinic.

Why have an examination beforehand?

Not every eye is suitable for laser eye surgery or lens replacement. A fluctuating prescription, a thinner or irregular cornea, dry eyes or a retinal condition may be reasons to decide against a procedure or to choose a different technique. Knowing this in advance prevents disappointment afterwards.

Follow-up after the procedure

After laser treatment or lens replacement, check-ups are needed: how is the eye healing, how sharply do you see, and are there complaints such as dry eyes or glare? We carry out these check-ups at our own locations. We report our findings back to the clinic where you were treated.

How it works

You make an appointment at the location that suits you best.
The optometrist carries out the examination and discusses the findings with you.
You receive a report that you can take to the clinic.
After the procedure you come back to us for the check-ups.

What should you bring?

Your ID, your glasses, an up-to-date list of your medication and, if you have it, information about your previous prescriptions.

Do you wear contact lenses? Check with us beforehand how long you need to leave them out. Lenses temporarily change the shape of the cornea, which affects the measurements.

Please note: you may be given eye drops. During this examination we may dilate your pupils with eye drops. Your vision will then be blurred for a few hours and you will be sensitive to light. You may not drive back yourself: arrange transport or come with someone who can drive for you. Bring sunglasses.
